Default 65-68 windshield sealing?

What are you guys using to seal up the windshield on a 65-68? I've heard that it is not neccessary to seal those up because of the rubber and I've also heard it is a good idea to seal it up anyway. What are you guys using?

I think it was 1969 or so that Ford stopped using the rubber to seal the windows, and just used a sealant instead. Anyhoo....this goop works well with the rubber.

When my restoration shop installed the front and rear glass they did not seal it - everything I read says it should have a small bead inside the rubber (between the seal and the galss) as well as around the body where the seal sits. The 3M stuff is the way to go. I know the lower outside corners of my rear window are gonna leak, so I am going to yank it out and seal it right. Good luck with yours.

I don't think you should have to pull the glass to do that, just pull the moldings and stick the end of the tube under the rubber and squirt it in there.

You're probably right but I have a tendancy to do things the hard way. Besides, I need to run a small bead inside the seal where it meet the glass as recommended by everything I could find on the subject. Geez, someday I might actually FINISH this car! But then again, these classics are never done, there is always something to do or improve on. That's why I enjoy the journey, LOL.

I use a Urethane sealer called Windo-Weld by 3M.

If you don't seal it 99.9% of the time it will leak.

69 and later cars use butyl tape, window weld is not intended for sealing a window with weatherstripping!
