Default Are we Invisible? Just venting!

Yesterday I took my '65GT Fastback out for a short spin. As I went down a divided highway in the right lane at about 50 mph (55 mph zone) towards a traffic light, an idiot pulled out from the light right in front of me! I mean I was barely 40 feet from him and the next thing I knew I had a Kia SUV pulling out... Are we invisble or what? An aggressive swerve into the left lane and I missed him by about 8 feet. I pulled over down the road, waited for him and gave him a few "expletives deleted" out the window. He just looked straight ahead and he knew he was wrong. I came home and had a cigarette and a beer and was still shaking - I see it over and over in my mind. 50K in my car and some stupid jerk tried to wreck it.

I have about 130 miles on the car since I got it running and I have had four similar events. Do we have bulls eyes on our classics or are we in stealth mode. Really ticks me off guys. Anyone else experience this kind thing?

One good thing - I learned the handling capabilites of my car - lowered suspension and wide tires, she handled wonderfully in the maneuver. JUST VENTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear you survived your adventure in tact.
It's not that we are invisible, it's just that everyone else is stupid.

Yes, "we are surrounded by stupid people, They're everywhere!"

All the inteligent folk own classic cars, and are always looking to "see" other cool cars.
Please take pitty on the rest of the folk out there with tunnel vision. They live a dreary life, void of any kind of excitement. Probably don't even know what a beer is.

On a side note, I've had great sucess by keeping my lights on, and by being vigilent in my watch for "Stupid people".

its not just classics, its just cars period. id say about 60% of the population are actually NOT COMPETENT drivers. They should not have a license, bottom line. Its straight up scary and unfair especially to you who im sure is a good driver to be putting others in danger...and also their prized cars!

One time i saw this person driving in the city (san fran) and we were at light....hes got a loaded truck...a small toyota pickup filled to the brim, seriously unsafely high with just garbage and junk....theres a 60-something camaro in front of him and its the first car at the light. i was in the car behind him. so we start going and the next light starts turning red and hes looking down or something i guess cuz he definitely wasnt stopping. the maro is basically stopped and he still going full speed fiddling with something. So he looks up at the last second, swerves and drive up onto the sidewalk kind of....dropping crap out the back of his truck. crazy....

or the CLASSIC...switching lanes without looking and then nearly smashing into you....you between the center divide and this idiot barrelling in on top of you.....your helplessly looking over hoping he MIGHT take a peek at where the hell hes going and might spare you from a major crash. i call this the "center divide sandwich" maneuver.

I've had the same experience a couple times. Usually they like to make a left turn (From going the opposite way) right in front of me... and then slow down right before they get to the road their turning on (you know, because if they hit that slight incline, it'll completely destroy their rock-crushing SUV). Apparently they just like to hear the four-wheel drum brakes all lock up at the same time, it's like music to their ears.

something I learned from my time on cycles. The biker saying is, ride like you are invisible. I apply that to my daily life, especially after the accident in November.

man i hate stuff like that, around where i live, theres people when they are turning left, decide to make a wide turn and go halfway into the lane next to them just to turn. or the one i see almost everymornign on the way to school. i'll be in the left lane and then some guy in a truck will want to get around me, but he cant cause of someone in the middle lane. Well we will be comming up onto a left hand turn lane, like into a neighborhood or something. Well when we get near it he will floor it, swerve into the left hand turn, and try to merge in front of me before i reach the end of the turn lane. i can think of a few times that i would have to slam on my breaks to avoid a bad collision. people like that shouldnt be able to drive.

When you are driving, it doesnt matter if you have your 65 Mustang out, or some other rare muscle car worth litterally tens of thousands of dollars, or if you are out in a beat up Huyndai.. You have to drive as if everyone else is a complete moron, you have to be alert and expect that idiot to pull out infront of you because they are in such a hurry they cant wait for you to go by.

People read the morning paper, sing with thier gospel music and clap their hands and stuff, eat a doughnut and drink coffee while letting the car go on its own, move into your lane and never look in the mirror let alone checking the blind spot, turn left from the right hand turning lane on a 4 lane divided highway across traffic moving at over 60mph and never think twice about it.

People in SUVs and Volvos are some of the worst, because they feel invincible. They feel they are safe, and they are higher than everyone else, so they wont be hurt. That makes them think they dont have to be careful and they really dont care about anyone but themselves.

Its a product of the "ME" generation, the baby boomers. No offense to guys old enough to be my parent fitting in that group. The common thread among BB's of the ME gen is that they think of nobody but themselves, and expect everyone to give them whatever it is they feel they need. Like the right of way when they are supposed to yield.

If you can miss a brightly painted muscle car with 3" pipes rattling all the windows lose on every street it passes while setting off car alarms making dogs bark, causing mothers to pull children off the sidewalk, then you have no business driving. That is my daily driver in the summer, a bright yellow 70 GTO, if you can miss it, you are deaf and blind. Plain and simple. Still I always have people pull out infront of me, nearly hit me, and of course try to carry on a conversation about my car as we drive down the road...

Drive like everyone else is an idiot... because they are.

Thanks for the replies guys. I know that many drivers out there are clueless and I drive my Mustang like I do my motorcycle. Just that in the 130 miles I have ridden so far, I have had four incidents of gross stupidity right before my eyes. And I can drive thousands of miles in my other cars without any incidents. My friends here think my Mustang is some sort of magnet for careless drivers. Think I will do as someone else said, drive with the lights on (how about the hazard lights? LOL)...
