??QUESTI0N??
I am wondering how to get a nice, crackeling, "LOUD", rumbeling soung out of my car. i currently have a 289 with a EDELBROK intake manifold, HOLLEY 4 barrel carb, and FLOWMASTER dual exhaust system with turndowns before the rear axle. I am already planning to add some HOOKER super comp. long tube headers. What else do I need to do? PLEASE HELP!!!
Well it sounds more deep than loud. [Really deep] What Im looking for is a really loud crackling sound. And yes, I do have straight pipes (NOT H-PIPE) . I just got them like 2 months ago. So what would help me get what Im looking for??
If you want it to crackle and burp you need to run a small diameter pipe. Like 2" or less, the smaller pipe is what made cheap systems bent up in a muffler shop sound like that. Well the diameter and the bends. My brother had a 68 Dodge Coronet with 1 7/8" pipes with a stock 318 2 barrel, it made it sound like it had a large cam and had the sound I believe you are looking for.
Flowmasters give you a tinny sound, like its breathing through a can. A couple of the straight through glass packs with no baffling will make the small pipes even more like you want. If you like that sound, well you wont like the performance. Have you been to the drags strip and heard those cars? Listen to the 10-11 second cars and see if you like that better.
I wouldnt go less than 2.5" for a small Ford, the 71 Fastback I'm building has a Cleveland and is getting 2.5" pipe, it shouldnt sound like that.
