Default 351c vs 351w

I was wondering if anyone could give me some pros and cons on both!

From a rookie, i'd say the pros of a windsor are its light and very easy and cheap to work on and get power. the cons are its naturally got a poor induction system because of the intake engineering and its a pretty long block to get into early mustangs. the Cleveland cons are its large, heavy and hard to find original parts. the pros are very good head flow and there are some new parts coming on the after market that will make it a very powerful engine.

ya but if your looking for something bigger than say a 289 modern 351w blocks are pretty nice, u can get a 400hp one easy for a little over 4k and thats not including a intake or carb. clevor are $$$

Clevors are cheap ! They utilize a common 2 barrel head 351C/351M/400M and a common bottom end with the exceptions of the rods and pistons. But then again, any big horse buildup utilizes an aftermarket rod and piston combination, so that's not really an issue. The intakes are available on ebay from 200-500 dollars depending on the listing. The coolant flow modifications are simple and inexpensive as well. I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that I can build more horsepower & torque for less with a Clevor than you can with ANY Windsor. Don't kid yourselves gang, these little halfbreed monsters are misunderstood. EVERYONE thinks they are crazy expensive ... but it just isn't true. Just my well experienced opinion, Dean

and a Cleveland isnt much heavier than a Windsor, I wish I had a scale that went that high. Clevelands will stomp a Windsor pretty easy if built right. No porting required, no aftermarket head required, add a cam, carb, intake, and headers then have fun. Keep it under 6500rpm and it will live a long time. 400hp from a Cleveland is easy as falling off a log.

Clevors are cool because you can use the M heads on a W block. The C/M heads are the best flowing stock small Ford head ever. If anything the 4Vs need to be made a bit smaller, not bigger. IF I had a good W block, I would slap on a set of C heads and have fun, provided I can get the intake!

Windsors are vastly more plentiful, cheap to build and fit easier than anything with a Cleveland head on it. They can be made to run pretty well, but heads and intake are the drawbacks. The good W heads are hard to find, made in the first run of W engines. Bolt on a set of aluminum aftermarket heads, stab in a cam and you have a screamer.

I'm currently rebuilding my Cleveland and am poking and stroking it to 393 cubes. With closed chamber 4V heads, there aren't many Windsors that will touch it - unless you go the forced induction route to push air into the W. My money is on the 351C.

A stroked 4V is going to make 460 like power with small block weight... Man, built right that woud be just sick.. I want one... badly. It would be perfect to annoy and embarass my friends with LS1s...

They get kinda of touchy on fuel though. I am running closed port heads, 11:1 compression, bored to 393. I am also running an edlebrock manifold and carb. It took some adjusting to get it to like high test pump gas.
