Default horsepower guessimate

Ok guys, HOw much Hp do you think i will have after installing 351 heads, and a edelbrock rpm intake with matching cam, and 500 cfm performer carburator? I think it should add around 30-40 horsepower, but i wanted your knowledge.

Without adding new aluminum heads, you are only adding about 30-40 hp. Not bad though.

well, not really. The only reason aluminum is any good is because of the wieght difference. It doesn't add power. Lets put it this way, IF i bought some cast iron heads, and then the EXACT SAME head made in aluminum, there wouldn't be any real difference. The only reason aftermarket heads are any good, are because of the massive valves and ports.

Just wondering if you have had the head machined to bring the combustion chamber size back down? From memory the 351w are 64cc and your 289 would have had around 54cc. Meaning you will lower your compression ratio.
Regardless of this, you should be getting reasonable gains. I've still got origanal heads (with exhaust bumps removed), and just the performar intake and cam with a 570 street avanger, tri ys and 2 1/4" twin with H pipe, and I dyno at 195 RWHP.
You are going with a bigger cam, which is why I was asking about your compression ratio.

I'll have to agree with that one.. I have been battling with getting HP ford cast iron heads (58cc chambers) with 1.9 valves, GT40 heads with the same size valves and Edelbrock Performer's with 1.9 valves. Hard choices..

Hmmm, thats good power. SO the higher the compression ratio the better? I can only hope for that much power, since i only got about 140-150 at the wheels now. im just guessing though.

You definitely dont want to go too high on the com ratio, but the higher you go, the bigger cam you can use, etc. A well matched setup such as the RPM your looking at with the larger valves on the 351 heads, and a comp ratio of around 9.5:1, AND a good exhaust system, should see you right up at arounf 200 RWHP. (depending on you trans thats getting close to 300Hp at the crank.)
Are you running an Auto? and what rear gears do you have?

Yeah, I have an auto, i know that loses more power. I have the 2.80 gears, and they really SUCK. I got blown away today by a 93 5.0 mustang. Im ashamed. I have a 2.25 exhaust system with h-pipe, not really finished yet, but ill be soon.

With the cam your looking at, even with some 3.25s or 3.55s, you are right on the limit of needing a stall converter. Only in the 2000-2500 range, but you std one is going to a weak point for you off the line. A posi rear will also be a good upgrade while you at it.
After all this, that 93 wont stand a chance!!

lol, yep. now, me and my friend are agruing about rather if i get 300 Hp, out of my engine, i could beat his dads 04 GTO. It wieghs 3900 lbs. and has 350 hp. My car wieghs around 2600, and might have 300. What do you think would win, on a track? I really didn't want to go with a new torque convertor, but i was going to go with some 3.25 gears.
