lol, yep. now, me and my friend are agruing about rather if i get 300 Hp, out of my engine, i could beat his dads 04 GTO. It wieghs 3900 lbs. and has 350 hp. My car wieghs around 2600, and might have 300. What do you think would win, on a track? I really didn't want to go with a new torque convertor, but i was going to go with some 3.25 gears.
The 04 GTO. I gotta tell you. Im from Australia, and worked for Holden on the GTO (Holden Monaro) Im pretty proud of that car. We used to say here that selling a muscle car to the USA was like selling ice to eskimos.
But to answer you question, you have potential, but it will require the stall and gears, even then it could go either way. I think you will find that yours weighs closer to 3000.
An 05 GTO? add nitrous!

BTW, I now work for FORD!

good, i was about to say NOOOO, not a Holden guy. I have always heard the 66 coupes were alittle shy of 2600 lbs. the only thing on that car is a stereo system. no a/c or anything to wiegh it down. Im looking at the power to wieght ratio, and mine is much better then the GTO's.

Check out this road test. its from a 65 4 speed, but should be representative. (there is a data sheet at the very bottom)

2930 curb weight
3310 as tested

You are sorta right about the wieght. i read an article that said the wieght of a fully loaded V8 was about 3000, while the inline sixes were 2500.

As you raise compression, you will also raise the octaine requirement of the engine. 93 is not too bad, but if you need race gas that is too expensive.

Yes thats correct about requiring higher octain fuel, however this is only true if all you do is raise compression. If you were to add a cam with more overlap, the octain requirement comes back down. Theres a difference between static compression, and real word running compression. At around 9.5 with the performaer RPM cam, there wont be a problem. just make sure the tune is correct.

Thanks guys. YOu know, what does a stock 289 2v take as far as octane? I know in my shop manual i believe it said regular, but what was regular back then? It also says the 4v took premium, what was premium back in those days?
