64 1/2 or 65

Hi,
I guess you didn't anticipate such a "fire storm" by asking a simple question. Early mustang owners can be quite passionate!
The simple matter is, as was mentioned "641/2" was coined to distinguish the early models (March 64 through August, or so.). Also, as noted, were titled dated as 1965s. I have an original owner's manual to the car has referenced on the front cover, "1965 Registered Owner's Manual". It has a number of references not printed in the fall owner's manual. My mustang has a late May '64 build date with a "D" code engine.
These "early models" had a number of distinguishing differences and is well documented, some more prominent than others. The list includes......generator, horns on the frame rails, beveled hood lips, smaller mustang fender logos, colored keyed door lock *****, brown colored solenoid, specific owners manual, vinyl covered door sills, beveled headlight buckets to match hood lips, dash pod with "GEN" light, "A" script in the left air door pull, "D" code motor (first 4 barrel 289), convertibles windows had leather draw pulls to assist with pulling window zipper, gas cap had no retaining ring, the rear tail lights bezels had no rubber seals, to name a few nuances.
It is quite possible, some of these parts bled over unto the fall models if inventory remained. This further confused the "passionate". Hope this helps!

We sure would like to see a picture of the title. While you are at it please post a picture of the matching fender stamp serial number. I am aware this post is old, but maybe someone else here has a 1964.5 title and matching serial number.
1964.5 or 1965 is surely a confusing issue to me. I have only owned my 1965 Mustang 5 years. Lots of good reading here.
Does any one know how many Mustangs had the 260 V8 motor, and how many of the 260 V8's were convertibles?

it is simple, if a Ford's vin starts with a 5, it is a 65....There are early 65's with generators and late ones with altornators. Before anyone starts yelling about the differences, the very first production Mustang sits in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI, and they call it a 65!

Please tell Ford that they are wrong and there is a 1964 Mustang, even though all the VIN's start as a 65 and there are no 1964 part numbers...
