A good shop can repair that area by welding in new metal (the only good way to go, don't bondo it!) Looks like your Mustang is suffering the common ailment of old cars, body rot. Had my share of it and had everything replaced by a good restoration shop. Takes time and money though. Good luck, don't get discouraged.
