Default Adding AOD to your C4

We had a discussion a few days ago about adding AOD to your classic. I mentioned the cheapest way was to simply add it to your existing C4. That assumption turns out to be wrong. I wrote to the company, and this is the reply I got.

Glen,

Sorry, we do not supply AOD transmissions for swaps. B&M, TCI, and Hughes all sell transmissions for swaps. We sell an auxillary transmission that can mount onto the back of your stock C4 transmission, and give you an additional three gears to play with. Take a look at the difference between us, and an AOD

With GV installed on C4 Standard AOD gears
1st 2.46 2.40 or 2.84
over 1.92
2nd 1.46 1.87 or 1.55
over 1.14
3rd 1.00 1.00
over .78
4th .67 or .70

The difference in the gear ratios for the AOD is there is a close ratio transmission, and a wide ratio transmission. Take a look at the gear ratios. See the difference? Now you have a close ratio, six speed, semi-automatic transmission, with the C4/Gear Vendors kit. Plus, you have a very reliable transmission combination with the C4/Gear Vendors. Installing the Gear Vendors unit will only require the driveshaft to be shortened. Installing the AOD will require the flex plate, torque converter, cooling lines, transmission crossmember, and driveshaft to be changed. Price for our kit is $2495.00, $45.00 regular ground freight shipping to your door. Give our New Products department a call at 1-800-999-9555 if you have any further questions for us. Also, take a look at our website, www.gearvendors.com, for further information.
