Default RE: convertible owners beware

this is what was on the form I got from the dealership...

7r3z - 76501b00 - aa: cover assembly

wa - 9: tie

w711091 - s900: nut

on my old top it did stop about an inch from closing. the new one comes much closer which worries me a bit cause it probably means it'll loosen up even more over time.

My top stops about half an inch away so requires a quick tug on the handle when using the latches to hold it down. Every convertible I've owned, regardless of make, has done pretty much the same thing so don't worry about that - there is a reason the handle is there at all right?

I just hope if my top is going to break like this that it does it before the warranty runs out.

I had the driver side assembly replaced. The cost was listed at $415. Now the passanger side is toast and I'm currently "on the list..." Basically missed summer. Good thing I've moved to Texas. Should lengthen the top down season some. Glad to hear that the repairs are finally happening.

See, that's the beauty of a TSB...you can request to get it replaced regardless under warranty.

After 6 weeks my top is fixed!!!! (I say that with fingers crossed) I originally took it to the dealer on July 6th. I called the dealer 2-3 times a week and wasn't getting anywhere. I made one phone call to Ford's Corporate office and they called the dealership. Miraculously, the dealership told corporate that my parts had just arrived and that they were just getting ready to call me to set up an appointment. GO FIGURE! Anyway, they kept the car two days and it appears to be working fine. I guess time will tell. Good luck to the rest of you who have to experience this.

I just had to give the survey lady a bunch of three and fours out of ten when she called to see how my repairs had gone... It wasn't even hours before I had a call from the service director of the dealership. They don't like those low scores getting back to corprate is suppose. Magically all the parts are in. My appointment is Monday.

Can't wait.

Ahahaha! That's awesome...

but, just make sure those are the new parts, not just the old ones (not specifically your old parts, but the old designed parts)

I remember well why I bought the car. I thought $28000 would by me a reliable vehicle and service within reason, not a car that has a page long list of tsb's. there is a reason why ford is in its current state and why other manufacturers like toyota are dominating the us market.
Ok, a few things here. If you wanted a completely reliable vehicle, why did you buy a convertible ? Convertibles have more maintenance involved and require more care and attention. How is that more reliable than the hardtop ?

That said, trust me, Toyota is NOT as good as most people think. I used to work at a Toyota dealership, and I've seen the TSBs (they called them Tech Trouble Sheets at the time), and some of Toyota's vehicles had pages and pages of those as well (especially the SUVs). If you want to compare apples to apples, the Camry Solara is DEFINATELY not flawless.

Ford is in what state ? So they're not as strong as once upon a time, so what ? Every single company on the planet has it's ups and downs, as from what I've seen, the '05 styled Mustang is an absolute hit seller for Ford. I dunno, I have to agree that it seems like you're angry at the dealer specifically, and taking it out on Ford in general. Ever buy a brand new home with missing roof rafters ? I've seen that first hand. Bottom line is, you can buy a new car, a new home, a new TV, anew sofa, and every single one of those items can have a manufacturing flaw in it. Personally, would I be pissed if I were in your shoes ? You bet I would be. But none the less, you shouldn't go and say "I should have bought a Toyota, they are perect" either.
