I generally don't buy into the convertible = feminine thing. There are plenty of verts out there that guys should be able to drive without being considered gay.

The newer 'Stangs have a sensor in the front passenger seat so the airbag will be disabled if there is some weight on it, but that weight is less than some pre-determined amount (not sure what). This is to allow smaller kids to ride in the seat without having the air bag go off.
One thing about the newer tops is the drip edge that is sewn into the 2008 and up tops. My top was replaced due to the door glass dragging on it when it was opened. (I have the whole story on this somewhere on this forum) Anyway when it was all said and done, 2 tops later I ended up with one that has the drip edge. They are pretty cool but I've noticed on mine that the material is cracking where the top folds. It doesn't affect the performance of the top, it just starts to look bad especially being a camel colored top. No leaks after 3 years but I do check the top for any signs of wear or tears on a regular basis.

I still say vert all the way, I now have 2 04 gt verts and I just picked up a 04 v6 vert for a project car (yay for my new longblock project!), my 88 coupe just sits and never gets driven now lol.

I just picked up an black 06 Gt convertible a few weeks ago. I do love driving with the top down and it is a totally different experience than a hard top.

It does have black leather and I live down here in the south and boy the seats do get hot.

If I had to choose again im not sure if i would pick up the coupe though. I plan on taking it to the strip in the future and possibly having to look into buying a rollbar doesnt seem appealing.

Looks like if you want a roll bar for a convertible, you'll have to get one for a coupe and have it modified, unless you know how to weld. I believe you'll have to have one that meets NHRA standards.

This is my 4th summer with my 07 vert and I would buy another one in a heart beat. I bought mine to replace my wrecked Harley and will never go back to 2 wheels as nothing beats driving a vert that's pushing 500HP to get your blood pumping

I also want to start doing some drag racing, so a rollbar is in my future. The best option is just have one custom built and I have seen several very nice ones done by Piper Motorsports in VA (some of which were fully removable), but this obviously comes at a premium.

And yes, there are some trade-offs as simple tasks like swapping rear springs is a bit more of a PITA due to the rear bracing bars, along with some rear sway bars not fitting.

My top was showing signs of some premature "V-shaped" wear marks above the door windows (which is happening on many cloth topped cars), but was replaced under warranty last month. This is documented in a TSB and they have redesigned the cloth top a couple times now. My new top is supposed to be the same top used on the the '10s and up, so hopefully it will wear a little better. But with my limited use (~2.5K miles/year) along with always being garaged/covered when not in use, I am sure this car will last a long time.

Verts all the way. Coupes are cool, but nothing beats a convertible in summer.

I love my vert. So do my wife and kids. Running around in the summer and during various cruises is the BOMB. Top down is amazing.

Plus you gotta love a lady with her Top Down. I love my girl - Steeda!!!! Top-less or go home! JK.

Living in Michigan is a bit of a challenge, although my girl is a Garage Queen anyhow. She only comes out to sun bathe!!!!

Well OP,

We are both from NC and I can tell ya verts are great in the carolina's.. I do have a jeep for winter/daily driving but as long as its nice weather and I'm not parking were I have to worry about the people parking next to me, I still find myself with the top down and the Tonneau Covers on the back seats... I think that why we have Seat Warmers.

Sept for this crazy 100 degree weather the AC keeps me cool enough even when the tops down.

Well he's asking here because the people in the convertible forum have verts and can say whether or not they'd make the same choice again... Any other section most of them have never had one and have no idea.

I say if anybody says you shouldn't get a convertible, 9 times out of 10(at least) they've never owned one. Pretty much simple as that.
