Default 65 paint and body prep

I have a 65 mustang that I want to re-paint and do body work to. I want to do the prep for the paint myself but don't have any experience in types of tools best suited and especially sandpaper types to use. There is more than one color on the color, previous owner just painted over the other color so I want to get all the paint off. Basically do all that I can myself to keep cost down from the body shop. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

well, if you wanna start from bare metal, you have a couple of choices.Ine is have the body media blasted or you could chemically strip the body. Buy some Aircraft stripper or theres on by Jasco. Wear gloves, use a paint brush and brush over the body in small areas, wait about 10-15 minutes and use a scraper and start to get down to the layers of paint. Depending on how many layers,it might take a few aplications of stripper.

I dont recommend using a grinder with a rough grit, because in the wrong hands it could "erase" some of the body lines.
