Tap for what your power to power up the gauge or the wire to get the reading?

Any keyed 12 volt soure will work. You could even use the switeched source from your radio.

Be more specific with your question so that i can help you out with a more detailed answer. But most of the time your hot sources are red.The one from the stereo is.The other is yeller but thats constant 12v so its not what you want.Make sure that the gauge goes on and off with the key and its fine.

Take out the stereo and find what should be a blue wire that leads to it from the key switch, that is the remote wire that allows the stereo to turn on when the key is turned. if you need more info. let me know.
Hope this helps.

I was going to take out the radio but its not like my old 97, I tried taking the trim off around the radio but it sounded like i was going to brake it so i left it alone. is there a screw that is holding the molding around the stereo or do i just need to pop it off?

no, just take a thin flat-head screwdriver(might want to wrap with thin cloth to prevent scrathing) and pop one side then the other, the clips that hold it in are tough so alternate sides to make sure you dont break anything. Any more help, just let me know.
