Default paint question

I am getting ready to paint my 84 5.0 and need some advice/pictures. I once saw a fox body that was cobalt blue and have wanted that since, my problem is I am not sure what color the base should be. I can get a gallon of HOK cobalt blue kandy kolor for $135 and the mustang is just about done with the prep so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not really cobalt, but it looks close. It is a 97, not sure of the paint color...I think the code was HK???! I can check if you are interested.
Good luck,
Troy

Kobalt blue is an awesome color! I don't know what you are getting from HOK for $135 per gallon, but here is a site with great prices. I paint custom motorcycles and some cars and use this site for most all my supplies. If you are down to bare metal, you need a good primer. I use KP-A/B Epoxy primer (HOK...go figure!) Then, KO-Seal Sealer. You can get it in metallic, white or black. You can try to skip a step and get the metallic. I use white. Makes everything "POP". Then, I use Orion Silver Base Coat (Shimirin Glamour Base Coat). Then for the Kandy, SG-100 mixed 1:1 with RU-311 Medium reducer (depending on your temp, see lit), Get Kandy Koncentrate. You add 1 ounce per 8 ounces of the mixed SG-100. Mix 4oz SG, 4oz Reducer and then 1 oz KK. MAKE SURE YOU USE 75% overlap, not the normal 50. This will avoid lines or streaking. After all that, UC-35 Clear Coat. On the last coat of clear add 50% more reducer than normal. NOT 50% OF WHAT YOU HAVE...BREAKDOWN THE MIX AND RE-RATIO. This is called a float coat. It reduces orange peel greatly and is smooth as glass. You may not even have to sand or buff when done correctly. Attached are links to HOK and my website. See my GMC truck in Cobalt Blue over marblizer with Hot Wheels Flames. If you are close and don't want to chance doing it yourself, come on by! These materials for your car will be about 600 bucks!
