Racing Stripes
So I've been eyeballing the Boss style racing stripes for my 06 Mustang for a little while. I have factory installed white rocker panel stripes, so I'm thinking I would match those. Having read a few peoples experiences with them, I'm looking for some further opinions.
From what I've read vinyl stripes can be a bit tricky to maintain (have to be careful when washing and waxing or could lift the edges, vinyl naturally wants to peel back, etc). The other option is getting them painted on, but then you have some significant more cost (though I don't really know how much more).
Between the two, what makes the most sense? What kind of life can I expect to get out of vinyl stripes, and how much babying do they require to keep them nice? Should I just save up and invest in painted stripes? How much would that run me, you think?

To have your stripes painted would set you back quite a bit unless you have connections in a prof. paint shop. Painting is no joke if you have it done right.
You can get a good quality vinyl and do it yourself for under 100 bucks (or less). I found a vender and purchased a 10yrd roll for 40 bukcs. If you don't like the way the vinyl looks, then you can always remove it with a little elbow grease.

http://www.signwarehouse.com/ has all typse of vinyl...just find the color and style you need.
White and black stripes will go about 5 years while silver and gold (metallic) stripes will go about 3 years on most cars. The colored stripes will go about 4 years. If the car is garage kept they will go longer. High performance cast vinyl stripes will give you an extra 2 years life. They all go on easy and will stay on. The nice thing about vinyl is that it can be replaced cheaply and fairly easily. I go mine at www.rallystripes.com and am happy with the look. I keep the car in my garage for the most part so longevity is not really a problem.
I just got some racing stripes put on. Cost me $700 for the stripes up the grille, good, roof, back, and all the way down. And some on the side doors. Would also like to know about the washing/waxing issues.
But, the biggest thing on my mind right now is little bubbles under the decals. The shop told me that it is moisture caught under the decal and that over time they will go away. I don't know anything about that. Is he just covering for their mistakes and hoping I won't follow up later? Or does that just happen when you put the decals on?
Thanks for any advice,
Denny

Several thing come into play here. What part of the USA you live in. Garaged or not. Daily driver or not. Plan on showing the car or not. How much money can you get up. I live in the desert. The sun is killer on vinyl stripes wether your garaged or not. I own a 2003 Roush stage 2. I show my car and drive it twice a week to work during the day. I opted to get the stripes painted on. Yhe striping cost me $1500.00. That included putting the stripes under 5 coates of clear. Cars in this area within the first year show signs of vinyl stripe failure. Having the stripes painted on makes paint maintanence easier. So all I am saying here is: "PAINT THEM ON"
