RE: removal of sap?
The Mothers Clay Bar Paint Saving System and the Clay Magic are two of the better consumer clays out there from what I hear. I have only used the Mothers.
What I'd try for sap on glass or paint is gum turpentine or mineral spirits... home care or paint stores have either one. Test in an inconspicuous area first, but generally it's safe to use on body paint without any problem.
You can clay afterwards (and it's a good idea to do once or twice a year), but I figure why gunk up a perfectly good clay bar for some sap... and if it's stuck-on sap (and it sounds like it is), you're going to have a hard time even with the clay bar.
Good luck!

I feel your pain... don't resort to buffing yet as you might risk damaging the surrounding paint.
Tear a little piece of paper towel or cloth to lay over a sap spot and keep it soaked for maybe 5 or 10 minutes with gum turpentine or mineral spirits and see if that loosens it up. It may take several applications. Some sap is quite nasty, but the sooner you get rid of it the better as it can do nasty things to your paint.
