Default Wet sanding?

I was talkin to a guy about this and he said he had a friend to do it to his car and made it look incredible. I'm not really familiar with this so does anyone know more about it as a good idea or no? This would be to take out all the swirl marks in black paint.

im not sure if thats a good idea, from what i understand wet sanding is done before the clear coat is sprayed so the next layer of paint is smoother. Why dont you try Meguiars SCRATCH X. that worked wonders on my dads all black ram 1500

I tried that but it didn't work so well for me. This is for the Cobra that I'm getting in a few months. Its very clean but I was just wonderin if I did start to get some swirls if wet sanding is a good option sometime down the road.

As an auto painter I wouldnt suggest wetsanding. Always try the less aggressive products before going that far. Swirl marks and scratches can most times be removed with a good polish. Compounding a car should be your last resort method if you cant get them out. Wetsanding your clearcoat will shorten the life of a factory paint job. If you have a repaint that has at least 3 coats of clear a light sanding job with water and 1500 or finer paper will give you that flat finish.

Do you have a Porter Cable polisher? I would give that a try with some polish before you try wet sanding. Most of the people that I've seen that have swirls can be fixed with some good swirl removers.

Oh yea... I would deffinetly try any and all polishing methods before I would resort to wetsanding. I just wasn't familiar with that process and I was wantin to find out more about it. The guy that I talked to about this said that his friend polished alot and eventually had more swirls than he liked so he tried a different alternative. He said after it was done that it looked better than it ever had but I guess it still takes the life away from the paint. Thanks for the info guys.
