what will a clay bar remove?
The claybar will remove all the contaminates that have gotten embedded in your paint. It's a good idea to polish and wax afterwards. The claybar will leave your paint surface smooth as glass if done right. Definitely worht tkaing the time to do.
Claying is not the same as colorsanding -- it won't remove orange peel or other imperfections.
But as already stated, it will safely remove contaminants that don't come off during washing, or even during polishing.
If got surface contaminants -- and I bet you do -- and if you've never used clay, try it... you'll be glad you did.
Check out the Mothers Clay Bar Reel which explains it pretty well.
Oh, and if you're near a Kragen (or probably also a Checker or Schuck's), it's on sale right now (at least in Southern California) with a newspaper circular coupon for only $14.99.

Claying the car is probably the best 3 hour investment you can do for your car. My car is going on 4 years old and had many imperfections imbedded in the paint. Definately a must for anyone is cares for their car as much as I do.
I'll agree that claying is indeed about the best investment, period, especially at less than $20 for a kit that'll do your car two or 3 times.
If your car's neglected, it can take some time as 02JRClassic indicated, but a semi-annual claying shouldn't take more than an hour if you've been washing and waxing with any frequency.
I've seen lots of paint that's neglected and damanged by such contaminants, and these can discolor the clearcoat permanently -- a costly proposal if you realize just how expensive it is to repaint. Twenty bucks and a little time and your paint will not only last longer, but you'll get better results when you wax.

Thanks, I have done it before, and the results are quite amazing. I just didn't know if I was taking everything off of the paint or if I was taking only the impurities and leaving the wax or polish.
