Removing Rust Near Rotors
I was wondering if any of you have removed rust like this. What kind of products should I use and what kind of results will I get? I think I got a little project on my hands!
The rust on the rotor per se should go away when you drive the car and apply the breaks. However, if it just rained and then you park it in the garage or even outside..in a couple of hours the rust will be back...it just a matter of metal oxidation. The rust on the rest of the rotor is another thing. Not sure if you can really get rid of it, unless you try cleaning it up and painting it...which I have not done myself, oh-by-the-way.
I take it this is a pretty common problem? It just sucks, when you have new chrome rims, then these ugly rusty titanic rotors behind them. I'll try to find a solution.

My $1500 Brembo's rust as soon as I get done washing my car.....its not that big of a deal. Once you drive the car the brake area that the pad rubs will be spotless....as for the hub part of the rotor, find some high temp paint, whatever color you want, and paint the entire rotor or you can masking tape the pad region and paint the hub. No reason to really paint the back. Make sure you wire brush the rotors rust off completely b4 doing any painting and good luck! But if you want to replace the rotors....brembo makes cadnium plated rotors just like mine for oem, or stock, brakes.

If you were using a spray-on, hose-off wheel cleaner, next time just spray it either directly on the wheels where you can, and onto an old sponge or mitt where you can't avoid the bare metals.
And maybe if you hit it with brake parts cleaner spray, it'll look less ugly.
Good luck!
