Milky Clearcoat on door
I have a 97 Mustang GT, black. It is extremely hard to refurbish the paint on this car. Im not wanting to repaint this car, how can i restore this milky look to it. Ive already tried buffing
Do you have any pictures of it? First I would claybar to remove all the contaminants. Then I would use a light abrassive polish and see if that does the trick. If that doesn't work move up to a medium abrassive. It is probably just oxidized and can be brought back to life.
Another request for photos... also, are there any indications that the door has been repainted? Or is there some reason you can think of that would indicate why the door is looking different than other body panels? Sun exposure, etc?
I bought the car about 3 years ago and I think that the car had been hit on that door or something because the fender and quarter panel shine fine, its only the door itself that has the milky color. I would put a picture on here but my g/f has my cell phone so no way to put it on here. But thanks for the idea's, i really appreciate it.
Knowing part of the vehicle has been repainted is very helpful... exactly where is even more helpful. Signs of a repaint would likely be indicated by opening and inspecting around the doors, trunk and hood. Is the finish smooth or rough?
It sounds like the repaint job on the door (assuming it's the door) may be oxidizing or lifting from the basecoat.
Either way, follow Juztang's recommendations on the affected area and hope for the best and let us know the progress... and if you're getting black on your polish applicator pad or not.
Good luck!
