i have my fog lights in my 94 vert wired where i can have them on anytime the car is switched on. im not exactly sure how to do it in a 89 but in mine i spliced the power wire for the convertible top switch into the fog light switch so it would get power when the car is on and they work fine. so if you can find an alternate power source for your fog lights and wire them into that, they should work fine.

On my stang I have the power wire from the foglights spliced into the main or "hot" wire going into the parking lights. That way when I put my parking lights on my fog lights will go on with them. Hope that helps.

so pretty much all you have to do to get your fog lights working without your headlights being on is find an alternate power source to wire your lights into, just make sure that there isnt too much load on that one circuit though. if you wired your fog lights into a small load curcuit then it would blow fuses constantly.

What if you spliced the power wire for the fog lights into the power wire for say, an aftermarket cd player? Do you think that would handle the load?

Would the push button for the fog lights still function (pushing the button will turn them off, but pushing it again will turn them back on if the car is running)?

you could wire them to a constant power, and put a toggle switch on it.

Yes you could do that but I wouldn't only because I would probably accidently forget to shut it off and have a dead battery the next day but thats just me[&:] Personally I would put it on a switched power source so there are no worries--when the car shuts off so do the fog lights

i have mine spliced into the convertible top power, so it gets power anytime the car is on. I havent had any problems with it yet and it has been like that for a few months. The only time that i could imagine it overloading the circuit is when im putting the top down and have the lights on, but i have done that quite a few times and have had no problems.

So your fog light button still works to turn the lights on and off, or are the fogs always on?
