Default Price too high?

Hello,
I need some opinions on this price a local hot rod builder gave to me, he builds show quality hot rods, keep that in mind. The 4" cowl scoop needs help, the first guy screwed it up, and ground effects need some attention particulary in the rear, where it appears someone backed up in to something but no dents or anything, So anyways this guy told me 1200$, what do ya's think?

At first glance I would venture to say it is high.
I understand from your post that he will repaint the hood and probably repair and blend the damaged areas which in this case would be the lower portion of the rear bumper?

Perhaps you are paying for his reputation which, may not be a bad thing.
I would get estimates from somewhere else and ask them what they will do for the repairs and to what extent they will go.
Let them know it is not an insurance claim but is coming out of your hard-earned money.

Yeah, if you're unsure about the cost, just take it to another place or two and get some more opinions. I needed to get the front bumper cover on my '06 repainted, a small crack in the lower portion patched and a spot-paint on the edge of one of my fenders (visually there was very little damage) and my Ford bodyshop charged about $1200 for it, to compare to yours. So, while it might seem like a high cost for a small amount of visual damage, there's always a lot of prep and all that stuff that goes into it which runs up the labor costs and so raises the overall price of things.

Cars are expensive.

He's probably right. It wont be a quality job (not taking anything apart, just taping off all surface area and literallypainting the car as it sits) but it can be done for 1200. If there is no major damage to the parts, that price is kind of high.

Don't price shop when you are looking at body work. Quality shop, if you have to pay for quality work...so be it, it'll be done right.

If anyone can paint an entire car for $1200 it's going to be garbage work. I've never seen a basic repaint come out good for anything less than 2 grand. Materials alone will cost 6-800...400 in labor? Yeah it would be a shoddy full repaint.

$1200 for the bumper & hood sounds okay, if it's done RIGHT.

I agree it sounds right and if it is of show quality afterward than I think it is fair
