how much tint?
hey everyone. How dark of a tint should I get on my t-top glass to prevent fading? among working on the powertrain, I'mcleaning up the cabin, which is horribly faded on the front seats and carpet. is 20% dark enough, and is it better to have the tintshop use the film or dip them?
my only fear is scratching the film talking them off and putting them in the bags...

i had 5% on my old truck all the way around and it was impossible to check ur blind spots at night, at that point i didnt feel comfortable driving with it. 5% on a show car but realistically on the side windows and rear window, i wouldnt go to dark, the t-tops i would do 5%, and i would get them dipped or laser treated, the film is cheap, but u cant use ammonia based cleaners like windex on them, and if they get knicked by something sharp, then u can kiss them goodbye b/c ull have to get it redone, unless u dont mind if ur car looks like a **** bucket, but u get what u pay for
Well since it is for the t-tops then go 5% with the tinted film and if they are using a quality film they won't fade or change color over time. They can be scratched with either type but I would go with the film type and since you take them off over 60 degrees than they should last longer than the car....remember only if it is applied properly and a high quality film is used. My neighbor has had the same tint on his Grand National for 20 yrs now and look as good as the day his son applied them. He owns many "Auto One's" in MI.
sweet, thanks for the info. I'm gonna call some shops over spring break and get some prices. I'd hate to have my interior fade all over again as I have been cleaning it up alot. planning on a new carpet this summer as the old one is pretty nasty...
