NEW cali Tint laws???
So i get pulled over today and, among other things, get a ticket for blocking the view of the windsheild. The popo said that it really meant the side window tint which was illegal. When he first asked me about the tint i proudly said it was legal and 35% and i got a ticket. I also bitched because his citation was vague (obstruction of windsheild for a side window tint wtf????????) and i didnt want to take that in to court and have them try me for other bs and render all my evidence useless. etc. So i made sure it was in his notes that there was illegal tint.
I asked around and a couple people told me that side tint is now illegal in cali. Is this true? Is there anyway i can beat it because i got it when it was legal for sure?

Sucks that you have to find out about it with a ticket though. Warning would have been cool. Cops.

I think they changed it at the new year, you can only have 70% tint on your side windows which is barely any tint. I don't like it one bit, but I know that most cops won't pull you over just because of your tint if you aren't doing anything illegal.

He was really trying to fish for ****. He asked if we knew why we got pulled over and we honestly didn't. Then he said there must've been something wrong because i just put on my seatbelt. Then he did a walk around and nailed me for tints and no front license plate, and no seatbelt. like three cops were within 1/4 mile just pulling over teenagers. i had 2 other friends get tickets. I hate days when its super obvious cops are trying to make their quotas. I never even got a reason for getting pulled over. It probably wasnt for tints because I admitted to having them (thinking they were legal)
Here is a link to the California Vehicle Code that covers tinting sec. (26708).

Read paragraph D (1). It covers the amount of blocking the tint may do on the side windows next to the driver and passanger. The last update to the law was in 1999.
