painting your own stuff!
if i wanted to order a bumper, and it was primed.. or lets say i get a used bumper... what would i have to do specifically to get it mineral grey(TK?) or any other color but whatever that is specifically my example..
im thinking: re-primer? or do u take everything off until your down to the bare and then reprime? after primer, paint it, with air gun+compressor.. i already have a big compressor, but i need an air gun.. are these cheap ?
after the coat of paint.. 1 or 2 coats? you clear coat, and then wet sand.. i think thats right... then i was told you needed to blend it since my car has seen sun and is somewhat faded, am i correct in what i need to do ? if not tell me and how do you blend?
short version: trying to figure out if i should get my new bumper painted or can i do it myself with the right tools? and if i can, how?

Sure, you can do it if you have the right tools etc., but by the time you buy everything you need & go through all the steps you have to to get the job done right yourself, its probably cheaper to get a few estimates & have it done at a body shop. They can typically have the job done in one day, plus if they screw it up, they are the ones who have to do the job over
It should not cost that much to get a hood painted.

lol you mean a bumper? yea...idk im estimating around $100 for it, but i have the air compressor, so why not just see if i can do it and save like 70 bucks towards my dual exhaust lol
I'm not a painter, but I've already done a lot of research and am waiting from my parts to come in. I also have done custom computer case painting in the past, so I have some experience with paint. Assuming the bumper is plastic, you'll want to start with an adhesion promoter (bulldog is one) before you prime. Check out paintscratch .com for more info but it's definitely doable. Just take your time. Dont apply heavy coats or you're going to screw yourself over!!

you will never get it to look right...let alone match...a faded color at that
just have it done somewhere for you

Or you could just do this. I agree that the color matching is hard. I wont argue that. Especially when youre painting large areas. Hey - you could always paint it a different color (black!) then you dont have to worry about a color match!
