Calling all painters
I would love to start painting cars/parts in my spare time to become better but realistically, I'd like to know what all I need. I just picked up a decent air compressor, and I have some car parts and donor cars to practice on. But sanding-wise what is needed, grits, sprayers, etc. I'd like to get a wish list together lol.
Again this is more so for hobby, not looking to open a shop!
Thanks for any help.

Add Paint Booth and Exhaust Fan to the list.
I hung around with a group in high school that were really into cars. We'd have Bondo parties to get free labor for cheeze grading and sanding bondo, and Paint parites to get people to help mask the car. Free beer and pizza with friends was ok then. Couldn't pay me to do it now.

I am more interested in just the painting aspect then the bodywork; I realize that takes alot of skill and equipment and knowledge. My goal is just to be able to take prepainted or unprepped pieces and be able to paint them. I found the article about the $50 paint job but not looking for that lol (although its an awesome read if you havent seen it yet).
Bondo parties sound like fun! haha

Bodywork is the hard part painting is easy I know guys who cant paint a lick but are artists in repair work. I've taught 13 yr olds how to paint and are now working in custom shops at 17. I had them start out with small metal trash cans. Go buy a cheap gun Astro or copy of a binks #7 around 20 bucks at a flea market. Go buy some primer from a paint supply and see what they have for mis matched paint cheap.Talk to them about mixing supplies and thinner to paint ratios . Do a search on painting to get you started prep is very important clean clean clean .Sanding to start, finer grit 320, 600 on primer1000 or higher onprepainted surfaces. Dont worry about runs to much it will all sand out. Feel free to PM me anytime with questions. I've been painting for over 30 yrs and know almost all the tricks.
