Default Washing.

Whats the proper way to wash a car?! I just got my first car- a red 04 vert.. and I need to know how to properly maintain/ clean it..
My family is the type to just go to the car wash.. but I know that isn't good for your car..

I have: 2 100% cotton terry cloths..
1 Chamois
1 bottle of maguiers Wash soap (sorta pinkish)
1 Bottle of mag's Cleaner
1 Bottle of mag's polish
1 Spray bottle of eagle one quick detail
1 spray bottle of eagle one Tire/ Rim cleaner

When drying; does it matter what motion you make with the towel?

I use one of those towels that you wipe the water off and ring the cloth out. Can't remember the name at the moment. heh. If I use my Mr. Clean Autodry wash, which is my fave one to use, I get a spot free rinse so I don't have to dry.

I never like using towels to dry my car, just because it leaves little fibers on it sometimes.

make sure you use a diff rag for the wheels than the car. when you do your final rinse, take the nozzle off the hoze and let the water just pour out and it doesnt spot as easily. i have a sheepskin wash mitt that i use for the car and i like it. most of that rim spray stuff that says just spray on and rinse off doesnt work that well. that is about all i can think of right now. and oh yeah, wash from the top down.

It's called a "Chamois" -- pronounced "shammy". Traditionally made out of deerskin I think, but now there are synthetic chamois available. And yes, it is the best thing for drying your car. The chamois absorbs a lot of the water, but also makes the remaining water evaporate quickly so it doesn't spot or streak. To use:
1 - wet the chamois and wring it out really well.
2 - wipe down the car, wringing out the chamois as it gets saturated.
2a) DON'T use it on your wheels!
3 - rinse the chamois and let it air dry.
4 - enjoy your beautiful spot free finish.
