Cleaning the engine
When I clean an engine, I use Zep Formula 50. I liberally spray down the entire engine compartment, and the underside of the hood. Then, I let it sit for a couple of minutes. After that, hose it down. A lot of the times I use a pressure washer turned down low, but a garden hose should work just the same. Most engine cleaners you buy say to use as little water as possible, but by only using a little bit, you still will leave some cleaner behind, and, in the case of foamy engine brite, you wil also leave behind a white film. You might want to cover important electronics (computer & alternator), but it isnt always required. After that, if you want the hoses really shinny, use tire shine. Spray the shine on a rag and then wipe them down. Just make sure to let the tire shine flash off for a little while before running the engine- most tire shine is flamable while wet.
