Brightening the taillights?
I bought a second pair of taillights in case I screw this up, but I'll be applying a few coats of the Nite Shade tint spray to darken them up a bit. I'm not blacking them out completely, but they will be considerably darker than stock taillights.
Is there a way to brighten the taillight bulbs up to compensate for the lenses being darker? Are there brighter bulbs or LEDs or something? I want to maintain some semblance of safety when I do this, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I haven't measured the voltage on the lights yet. I'm still looking into options. Plus, I don't even know if I'll need to brighten the taillights or not.
There have been a few posts on this board about the VHT Nite Shades tint spray. Do a search for "tint tail" or something like that, and you can see some pictures of Mustangs who have done it. I belong to a Dodge/Chrysler board, and they have recommended it. I'm sure you can put it on headlights, but most people recommend the GTS covers instead.

i guess you could run them off of a relay with a another power source of higher voltage. did you meter the stock bulbs to find out how much voltage they run off now?

BTW, this is a pretty bad idea. You are going to make your taillights less visable in any case. Do you really want your 25k investment slammed in the rear end?
Ditto for headlights.
well brightening the bulbs doesnt make the darkening of the assembly pointless, it makes it more visible at night and they are still tinted in the day. and just because your tailights are darker doesnt mean they are invisible 2000. theres these new led lights called spyder lights, i searched and couldnt find the website but my buddy has it, and ill post it when i get a hold of him. they are pretty bright.
You can find VHT Nite Shades at www.summitracing.com or just do a google search for it. I bought mine off www.pitstopusa.com because it was the cheapest place I could find.
The thing about the tint spray, is that you can make it darker by applying more coats. It looks darker during the day, but the red light is still very visible through it. I'll try and find a picture later to show what I'm talking about.

Well, this project is almost completed. I've taken pictures throughout the process so that you can compare how much light is being emitted through the tinted taillights. I even have one picture where one of the taillights is stock, and the other is tinted.
After I get them shined up, I'll post some pics up here.
