Stop Light/ traffic Cameras
I wasnt sure where to post this so i figured this is the forum that people see the most. lol. A friend asked me this and I have been a little paranoid about running red lights. Does anyone know how stoplight cameras work? Do they take pictures of the actual driver or just the liscence plates or both? Just a question, and what happens if the car is new and doesnt have any plates? thanks.
They take Both of you.car and plate, and can focus to see your reg and or inspection sticker. My brother is a state trooper so i know about this. Also the only way to fight it is if you know someone call them right after it happens ok. Good luck
ok reason why i was askin cuz i was in my friends brand new car when he crossed a red light, we went back but didnt see any cameras, we werent sure becuz since its new he doesnt have any license plates so i was just wondering cuz I dont want to make the same mistake he did, made me kinda paranoid. I dont think hell get a ticket since it doesnt have any plates but i just wanted to see if anyone else knows anything about it. I read it takes 2 photos front of your car and back.
If you run a yellow light, do they count those? I sure hope not, I run yellows sometimes!!
Anyways, I would figure it would get your plates for sure, and maybe a picture of you. But, I don't think we have any around here so much yet, so i can't tell ya for sure.
Someone on the boards mentioned that there was a spray you can put on your plates so those cameras can't pick up your plate #.... makes the numbers invincible to the camera or something.

They started to install a few of those in the downtown areas in minneapolis and st. paul i belive. Theres none in the city i live in. I was in arizona, and crossed a intersection and there was a sign point out there was a camera at that intersection. And for the question aobut yellows. If you make it into the intersection while its yellow, then it turns red before your out of the intersection, its counted as runing a red. The rule is you must make it OUT before the light changed to red. The only exception to this rule is if lets say your yelding to oncoming traffic and yout making a left. If you enter the intersection while its green, and it turns red while your still in there your fine since you entered when it was green. Strait out of the Minnesota drivers hand book. Had to look it up since i wasnt sure my self
In general I wouldn't worry about the cameras too much. Look at RockThePony's pic in her signature. You can read her plate, but you couldn't tell for who is driving the car(I know no one is in it, but suppose her sister was). You wouldn't be able to tell beyond a reasonable doubt that is was you or someone who looks like you. If you get a ticket, go to court and fight it, no reasonable doubt means no fine.
In Virginia Beach they have the cameras, but they're getting rid of them for that exact reason. The car owner gets the ticket in the mail, no matter who was driving. Put it this way, if my friend is driving my car and runs every red light, how do they know who he is? They don't, they mail the ticket to me...but I wasn't even in the car. These tickets can be fought in court very sucessfully.
