Default airbag replacement

i recently had a little fender bender with the stang and now i need new airbags. can anyone tell me somewhere that i can find a set of tan airbags for a 94 for fairly cheap? or how hard would it be to get some airbags of a diff color and spray them tan to match? i know it could be done but im not sure how well the color would match up with original. and does anyone know if this is something that i can do myself to save a little cash or if it has to be done by a professional. thanks alot.

Ryan. The airbags are gonna be one color. You just need the vinyl piece that covers the hole where the airbags goes. Airbags are High as you probably already know. Mustang part specialties carries alot of parts.

if the bags go off, isn't the car considered totaled?

Not always, but they sure drive the cost of repair up. The airbags run around $500-600 each.So you're looking at $1200 if both were popped not including the cost of say- fenders, headlights, marker lights, bumper cover, fog lights, hood, bumper, etc etc. Been there, done that (front end collision x 2) the first one did $3500 worth of damage to the old Stang (no airbags deployed).

yeah...i know the airbag itself is gonna be the same color, but most people sell the whole unit (airbag and dash part) as one piece. that is what i was talking about. and yeah, i know its gonna be an expensive fix, but its my baby, i cant let her get totalled. i was really wondering about painting the actual dash peice that covers the airbag...

They make paint you can use for that peice. How close you could get to the factory color is what i'm not to sure about. There's probably a body shop supply store on-line or maybe near you that probably sells the stuff you need. I cant remember if they call it paint or dye. You might be able to find one at a local junk yard too. Good luck with your car man. I know from experience what you mean about your baby. I told someone the other daythat my car is my significant other!

yeah...thats the big thing im worried about, is getting it close to the original color. and i loved it when my ex girlfriend got jealous because i spent more time with my car than her. hence the reason she is an EX- girlfriend. haha.

my first mustang was totalled. not much damage to the car but the airbags deployed. if i remember correctly for that car (99 v6) it was estimated from the insurance company a ballpark of 6 grand for just the airbags, sensors, all that stuff (plus installation and all that crap) then the body work ontop of that so they canned it.

have you thought about just getting any color and then painting some of the interior pieces the same color as your paintjob if you cant get the matching vinyl.

yeah, i could paint them to match the car, but i really dont think i would like having a green dash and steering wheel. that would just look very tacky in my opinion. id rather have them a different shade of tan than have them green. but i think you were really gettting ripped off with your airbags, from ford, they are about 1200-1300 for the stuff, so i dont know where they are coming up with 6 grand for just airbags. but, that is the insurances call. if insurance were paying to fix it then it would probably be totalled, but it is all coming out of pocket. i think i might just end up buying a beater car (since i need one anyways) and let the stang take a break for a little while until i can get everything fixed on it like i want it. i think im going to take this opportunity to put a cobra bumper and saleen hood on it as well. it is still driveable so thats not a huge deal.
