when you spray it down you will want to cover up the air filter fuse box and all electrical components so you dont short any thing out if you want the engine cmpartment to look really good get some degreaser and CD2 it is a engine detailer and follow the instructions on the can

simple green is a really good degreaser for the engine.

anyways, if you decide to spray it down, make sure to soak up the water in the sparkplug areas really well, as water tends to sit there.

The first thing you do when you wash your engine is to make sure it is cold to touch.
The second thing is to cover your COPS(coil over plug) so they don't get wet.
If they get wet you're in a whole world of #$%*& and your car will miss like no tomarrow.
Then you will have to take each one out and vacume the water out and hope for the best.
Its very easy to burn one out,SO DON"T GET THEM WET !!!!!!!!

I've personally used a lot of simple green degreaser and a spray hose (not pressure washer).. I let it sit for a short while (with the hood open) before running it and everything has been fine.

Gunk Engine brite works VERY well if your engine is dirty. I recommend the orange flavored stuff because god damn the original scent smells like a diesel fuel depot. Hit it with EngineBrite, let it sit and MIST It down with water. Do not use a strong jet of water, Gently mist it.

Once you get this clean, whenever you wash your car, you can just mist it with 409 or simple green and gently rinse it off to sort of keep it clean.
