Default Paint Chips..

I fixed a few paint chips on the hood of my car last night. Using 2000 grit sandpaper to level out the touch-up paint after I built the area up..

Man, having the PC available made it a lotttttttt easier. I even got out my lights and couldn't find the spots I repaired after a good buff over the area.

My car took a 2x4 to the front bumper last night on the road - I brought it with me to work so I could build up the touch-up throughout the day when I have a moment or two. Can't wait to get the 2000wet out and the buffer. [8D]

I have a scratch on my door that needs more touch-up, maybe I'll take pictures and go through the whole process and post it here tonight. [8D]

Sorry, didn't have time to get to doing a write-up.

Looks like I'll have to go scratch my car so I can do one.

How many coats of touch up did you do before sanding it?

I have a Van that I need to take care of some scratches.

I used a tooth pick to push the paint into the scratch. For the chip I just used the brush the touch-up comes with.

The chips I had were pretty deep. I think I put 4 coats on over the course of 2 hours. You need to build it up over the factory finish so you can gently sand it flush.

You really need to let it dry properly. If you don't, you'll just pull the paint out of the chip/scratch when you are sanding it.

Dude, I've heard many times about this technique, but no one would ever really post about it. So, if you cracked this nut and can walk us through with pics or so, I'll experiment on my Stang...NOT!.....But, I'll do it on my 1999 Ranger....
