Default removing old wax

well it looks like i waxed my 70 mustang way to many times and now, after i wash it, it looks dull and scratchy, i used some polishing compound on the truck to remove the wax buildup and it looks pretty good but what a long hard job. i still have to do the top and hood. any recommendations on a good way of removing built up wax without hurting the paint.

A good cleaner polish will remove any layers of wax you might have on the paint. My Light Polish and Poorboys SSR1 will both work well by hand. These will also bring back your shine and reflection. Then just top with a wax to protect.

also to remove the wax you can use either dawn dish soap or a clay bar, but after you remove it you will still have a dull finish most likely, thats where justin's polish and wax/sealant comes into play

well i don't know exactly what i did wrong but what ever i applied to my car really built up and seems to have just sat there. might of been to hot outside when i applied it. the problem is only on the trunk, hood and top, not on the sides of the car. im going to try dish soap to remove it, if that doesn't work i know polishing compound will do the job.

Are you doing this by hand?

Compound is not somehting you want to use to remove wax. Compounds are aggresive and over kill for wax removal. I just spray on some Stoner Tarminator and it will remove your wax. Then if you want to bring back the shine a light polish like Swirl Abolisher I, follow with Danase Wet Glaze, and top with a high quality wax or sealant.

It might sound like a lot but trust me when I say all of these products and steps will be MUCH easier to use than the compound you are using right now and will give superior results.
