Default Help with clear coat!

I love my car to death and its painful to see the stripping clearcoat. I just clayed and waxed this weekend (no polish due to time restraints) but the rear bumper is losing more clear coat! Not noticable unless you walk to the back of the car, but still worries me. How can I got about getting this repaired and how much will it cost me?

I'd take it to a reputable body shop in your area and ask them the same questions you asked in this thread. Is it just on the rear bumper??

Its just a few locations locations on the back bumper, specifically on the horizontal surface under the license plate

I'd take it by a body shop and see what they had to say. Really, no idea what it would cost to fix it.

Yeah, take it to a shop and let them look at it. Might even be cheaper if you take off the bumper and bring it to them. Might have a better job too so the shop doesn't just tape off the car and paint the bumper on the vehicle.

True, taking it off might help avoid tape lines and such - but if the clearcoat is peeling off, it's quite possible the paint isn't original, such as the bumper/etc has been painted due to repairs from a bender or dent. The freshpaint may not match perfectly.

IMO, I would leave the bumper on unless you cannot find any trace of previous tape marks, or paint build up around the edges of the rear quarters, trunk & new bumper. If there is no signs of previous work, take her off and matching the paint shouldn't be difficult at all. However if it has had work before, leaving it on so they can blend would be a very good idea.

I probably would be able to do it for for around $200 (about $50-75 of that will be materials) Body shop will probably charge around $300-$400 just to respray that bumper cover

Maybe more depending on the level of work that is done by the body shop you choose!
