clay and marring....
I'm doing a detail this weekend. I know what the customer wants, good protection, buta brilliant shine. I'm going with RMG, NB, and a couple coats ofOS. but I'd also like to clay...just so the final result would be that much better. Right now I have the Clearkote blue clay. Will claying his beautiful Black paint cause marring that I'd have to correct with some polish? If so, what would I use....SSR1 w/ a gray finishing pad, or the SSR1 w/ the white pad. The only other polish I have is Meguiars DC. What do you guys recommend? I want this job to look great, bc it's a good opportunity ..... word of mouth is a great form of advertising. Thanks guys.
Make sure when you clay to use plenty of lubrication and don't apply any pressure. You shouldn't get any marring. If you would, the Poorboys SSR1 with a white pad should remove it pretty easily. You could refine the paint even more with the SSR1 and a gray pad but I don't think you will need to. Then do the RMG with the gray finishing pad on speed 4. Then you can top that with the Nattys blue. Then finish off with the Opti Seal. This combo will look awesome when you are finished!

What Juztang said. You might get some marring, it really depends on a lot of factors like the lube you are using, clay, how much the clay is picking up, the softness of the paint / clear and so on. If you do get marring it won't be a lot and a light polish would take care of it. RMG with a white pad would probably be enough to do the trick.
I have not had marring on my 06 BLK GT after claying the car. Let the clay do the work and dont just go back and forth real fast and with alot of pressure or you are asking for marring or worse. Lube is everything and turning the clay to a clean piece by kneeding it and or replacing it when needed if it gets tomany contaminants in it. Remember if you drop it to throw it away and start with a new piece.
