Default Cleaning Engine

So a member told me that I had a dirty engine. (The nerve of some people's kids!)
Do I just put some soap in a spray bottle then hose it down?

I just take armour all and wipe down the parts i can get to ( doesnt clean the whole engine but looks like it would do a good enough job on yours)

That engine doesn't look too bad at all, just a little dusty.

You can use the No Rinse you got and make quick detailer with it, just spray it on and wipe off with a microfiber towel.

Now if the engine was dirtier I would use an all purpose cleaner on the whole engine and then lightly spray off with a hose. Then you can put on your favorite engine dressing.

On my cars I use simple green. I mix it 50/50 with some water in a spray bottle and spray then engine down. Let sit for about 15 mins and then rinse the engine down. Works for me

Just remember to cover up anything electrical that could get water in it, like the alternator.

I put 2 caps of no rinse in bucket of waterand wiped down what I could get to with a microfiber towel.
Looks much better.

Once the weather breaks I'll have to try some simple green or degreaser.
I'll cover the air filter with plastic. What else? Battery?

How is the process different for cleaning an older engine? More to cover up and protect from water obviously, but would it basically be the same process as in spraying everything with a cleaner/degreaser and letting it sit, then hosing it all off?

For the people that are talking about using Simple Green on the engine, be very careful with this stuff. It can discolor and damage any polished metal or chrome in the engine bay. Make sure you use an all purpose cleaner with a low acidity level.
