Default Porter Cable vs. Ultimate Detail Machine (UDM)

I have been looking into getting a polisher. I know most people use the Porter Cable and get great results. Autogeek offers both the PC and UDM along with package deals. I am thinking about going with the UDM because I can get $40 off. Both machines are priced that same. I am wondering if anybody has used the UDM. From what I can tell, it seems like a quality piece just like the PC but with a bit more power.

it basically is a pc with more power, with the more power comes easier/faster correction, but also comes the risk of burning your paint. both machines have their limits and both are good at what they do. when the udm first came out i heard of a few cases with the UDM breaking, i am not sure if thats been resolved yet or not. personally i love my PC and i am happy with it.

autogeek generally has terrible prices, you might want to shop around a little bit. even with the $40 coupon. maybe you can get the polisher some where else and spend $40 on some polishes from AG

The packages from Autogeek include all the pads, polish, pad cleaners, and microfibers. With the discount it would cost me $220 for all that stuff so it seemed like a pretty good deal. I read a couple other posts on this forum about the UDM having problems so I'll probably go with the PC. Maybe it's time for another obsessivedetail order. Damn detailing bug costing me more moneys now.

Dang $800 is a lot. Do you only detail your Mustang or other cars too?
I will be working on 3-4 cars. I get to use my brothers Exploder to practice.

I'd go with a PC. Its a great machine. I've read alot of horror stories about the UDM. The UDM is new. They're having problems with them. I've read a few people are on their 3rd one. So, if it were me, I'd go with a PC. Its a pretty awesome machine with a proven track record. I'd rather save a little money and have some piece of mind. Yeah the UDM is a little stouter. You hear this all the time- A PC on steriods. Well, alot of good those steroids are gonna do you when theorbital assembly is in two pieces.

Confusious say- He who screws girl on ground, have piece on earth.

There are still many problems with the UDM, I hear horror stories if these breaking almost everyday from some detailing forum. The PC is a beast and will hold up forever. The UDM does have a little more power, but you can still get awesome results with the PC. You just can't go wrong with the PC!!

I will give you $10 off of any of my PC kits plus an additional 10% off of any other items on my website.
