There are abrassive polishes and chemical polishes. Chemical polishes don't have any abrassives and they basically clean the paint bringing out more shine and reflection. Abrassive polishes will do what a chemical polish does plusthey can correct swirls and scratches too. Polishes also work great for removing oxidization and waterspots.

A wax will seal in and protect after you use the polish.

There are many polishes and waxes that you can get over the counter.

I carry some good polishes and waxes too. I use Optimum Poli Seal quite a bit, this is a paint cleaner, polish, and protectant all in one, you basically get the best of both worlds with this product.

Polish removes a very slight layer of your cearcot to remove light scratches and make it look all shiny. Waxes protect the paint and finish and you should to it every 1-3 months depending on the type you use.
