I just bought this car, i have black deep dish rims...

Is this from the salt? i picked at them n tried using a type of chrome stuff to make it shiny but it didnt even move any of it.

it looks like something ate threw the clear coat on them and it that is the case you would have to sand it down and have them recleared

if im not mistaken, most of the black deep dish wheels have a polished aluminum lip, not a chrome lip. if that is the case then the chrome polish wouldnt do much. you are going to have to get an aluminum polish (which is more abrasive) and it should eventually work itself out.

let me know if it works. I have the same issue every year I take my car out form storage. I've already replaced 2 rims. I've tried poilish, no luck. Le me know how it turns out.

Maybe just swap on the stock wheels before putting the car into storage each year.

But in this case the polished aluminum lip is clearcoated, and an abrasive polish will wear through the clearcoat. Though that's not generally what you want to do, it's one way to remove the clearcoat.

The other challenge is to not wear away the coating on the black spokes.

Simply put, these wheels need refinishing.

It's not the end of the world though. If you be careful and mask off the black paint, you can use a 2000 wet sand paper with a spray bottle of water and sand the clear coat off. With enough work you can get yourself a scratch free mirror finish.

It will take a couple weekends of free time if you don't have much confidence in what you are doing.
