I clayed my car this weekend and waxed it with meguiar's nxt 2.0. Looks pretty good. However I notice that in the sunlight I can see areas on the hood and top of the car, probably from the angle to the sun, that show a pretty hazy appearance. It's kind of spotty in that some areas don't look like that.

What did I do wrong? Not buff it in well enough?

 

you don't "Buff wax in". all you want to do is apply a thin thin layer and wipe off. wax just sits on top of the paint. you might have not taken it off fully and that could be where the spots are from.
if you're talking about a lack of flake, nxt2.0 has a reputation for muting flakes

 

What are these "flakes" you speak of?

If I haven't taken it off fully then can I just dust the car off and wipe it down in a circular motion with a MF towel? Should that take care of it?

no don't do that, thats probably the worst thing you could do, lol. rewash the car and if theres still any left go at it with straight lines and some QD

 

I followed the instructions on the back of the bottle and used MF towels and terry clothes to wipe the car off after the wax had hardened.

Why is it a bad idea to come back now and do the same thing to wipe off the excess that I didn't get the first time around? I'm confused...

It's a milky haze definitely not paint chipping or flaking.

 

how long ago did you wash the car? i wouldn't wipe the wax off if it's been too long because dirt/dust settles on your paint and then when you wipe it off it can grind into your clear and scratch.

it only takes 45 seconds to a minute for the wax to haze. doing the whole car then removing is entirely too long, even if the instructions say so.


when im using a wax thats required to haze i usually do 2 panels at a time, apply it to one panel, then apply it to another and by the time im done applying to the second, the first panel has hazed

 

The car was washed on Saturday when I did all the work. It's been dusted a couple times since then. It's black so you know how that is - california duster is practically a daily regimen.

Next time then I won't do the entire car before wiping off - because yes the instructions say to do exactly that.

So let me get this straight. You are recommending I wash the car before I wipe it down again? If I don't do that then I risk something getting pushed into the wax or worse yet the clear coat when I go to wipe it down?

Getting the wax off was a real bitch. I had to wipe each surface for what seemed like forever and it still left milky hazy spots in areas. Apparently I must've put to thick of a coat on.

 

yea i would never wax a whole car that wax must get pretty damn hard....like bill said start with a panel at a time will make removal much easier...and i when i wanna wax i wash the car first dry it then wax

 

I washed it, used the clay bar, then washed it again. Then waxed it. I just (apparently) didn't get it all off when I went to wipe the wax off.

 

Re-wash it. Dry it. QD, Quick Detail, it to remove the spots. It's just the remaining spots of wax. This is why QDing after waxing is a good idea. I suggest trying Meguiars #34, it's one of the best quick detailers in my opinion.
