Default What to use?

So my black paint has some pretty bad oxidation. It kind of looks like milk has been spilt on the paint. A few scratches and swirls.

I plan on this procedure.

1- wash/dry
2-hit the larger scratches first
3-buff out to remove swirl/scratches and oxidation.

My question is, which rubbing compound do you guys recommend? ANy thing else I shold do to "restore" the paint? I already clayed it and removed the wax that had built up on it. I will probably use a PC buffer. I have a high speed I have done smaller areas on cars with, but wanna use the PC to be safe. Any good ones to buy for a decent price ?

Wash the car in a household dishwashing detergent solution like Dawn, to remove all traces of wax and sealer. Then use a clay bar to clean the paint, and remove oxidation. Keep the clay moving, use plenty of spray water as lubricant, turn the clay frequently, and use more clay as the old clay pulls off tar and abrasive impurities from the finish. It may take several hours, maybe even a day, to thoroughly clay bar an old car, but it will do more to smooth and level the paint than any other treatment, with far less risk than buffing or using rubbing compound.

Finish by washing and drying the car again, and applying several coats of high quality paste wax.

Well, I know hwo to use a buffer, and its pretty rough, not to the point of needing paint, but I have clay bared it a few weeks ago. It helped but I guess I should try again. Wouldnt bffing be my best bet?

obsessive detail is one of our sponsors on this site and he (juztang) carries everything you need to get your paint looking like new again. but yes, you should def make sure it is clayed well and then use a good polish on it and then top that with a sealant or wax and you should be good to go. if you are looking to buy a PC, then he has a kit that has the PC, backing plate/pads, and polishes and waxes.
