Waxing/Glazing - Did I do something wrong
I spent all day detailing my car. My car is the color vapor (which is like a metallic grey or very light metallic charcoal), FirstI cleaned off tar spots w/ tar remover, then I claybared the car. Next I used a carnauba cleaner wax on the whole car and rims. The car looked great at this point. I then used Meguiar's #7 Glaze on the whole car. The glossy luster was gone at this point, although it did seem to have deeper shine. Then I followed with a coat of Meguiar's #26 Mirror Glaze HI-TECH YELLOW PASTE WAX per the instuctions on the #7 bottle. That seem to improve the gloss some, but not as much a I thought it would.
Overall, the shine lookes deeper, but not as glossy. I was hoping to get a "dripping wet" affect. Did I do something wrong. The instructions did not say anything about letting these cure. Should I have not used the cleaner wax first? Or am I expecting too much? I did all this by hand as I did not have a buffer. I know the lighter colors are harder to get a deep shine. Thanks....

sounds like you spent alot of time on it nice job man. it sounds like you did everything right. i forget what brand im thinking ether mothers or meguiars one of them makes a spray on called quick detailer that you spray onandwipe off it seems to leave a nice gloss butmight not be what your looking for. might be worth a look read the bottle and see what you think. also did you use a polish? lots of clay barkits sell them together so wasnt sure that might help. its a bit different then a wax
Thanks! I guess it does look better today after sleeping. I still think I can get a glossier look. I'm going to investigate the Porter-Cable random orbital polisher.
Sound like you put alot of effort into the car...congrats on the hard work!! And you diddnt do anything wrong....just lacking the proper tools. Get that pc and you will be amazed. I am a big believer that most of the cars shine/depth comes from the prep work (polishing, claying, etc), not the final step (wax/sealant). Get the Porter Cable and you will love it...best thing i ever bought for a car, but you have to work SLOW!!!
You should definately invest in a porter cable 7424 you can get the starter kit that comes with the machine and pads from justin at obsessive detail. www.obsessivedetail.com. Next time when you have the buffer everything will be done by machine pm if you have questions about using the products with the methods to get the optimum shine.
