They are welded into the exhaust system and through an electric switch and butterfly, they "dump" exhaust out right after the headers. This in turn gives way better exhaust flow for racing applications usually, and thus you'll make much more power. Dont drive past a cop with them open though.

they are kinda expensive for the electric ones, just get the wing nut ones if you want to be loud sometimes.

Large HP gains from these also...

Even with a high flow exhaust system already bolted up, nothing beats open headers.

Go with electrical if you get them, if you get metal you'll be kicking yourself everytime you gotta get under the car to open them up.

ive heard that going to far with exhaust on mostly stock mustangs actually hurts you, for example someone told me to get short tubes instead of long tubes. this was a 5.0 though,

Tell them to jump off a high tree branch and study up before they flap their lips.

You would have to run open HEADS (not headers) before you lose any hp with a V8 because of exhaust mods.

The story is different for 4 bangers, but for V8's, you want the LEAST AMOUNT of backpressure possible. Manifolds/headers provide enough backpressure as it is...
