What did I do wrong?
...and how can I fix it?
I have a Satin Silver 2006 GT bought new Sept. 2006. I have waxed it about every 4 months (or so) using Klasse at first, then more recently Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0. I clayed it today for the FIRST time using Meguiar's Clay kit. I had no experience with claying but had watched a couple of videos and read several threads on the forum.
I washed first, then clayed, then washed, then used the NXT 2.0 wax. I did not polish because I had no visible scratches or swirls.
The hood came out great - I could really feel a difference. The sides of the car (doors, fenders), however, feel kind of "rough" - not too much, just not as glassy smooth as the hood.
Can anyone suggest what I may have done wrong? Is it safe to clay again (if this is a solution...) - If so, how should I go about it?
Thanks for any suggestions or feedback as always.
Best Regards

You probably just didn't make enough passes with the clay over those body panels. Use lots of QD spray or soapy water and just keep going until its completely smooth. The first time you clay the car there will be a lot of contaminants in the paint and it takes longer. You will have to re-wax those areas because the clay will remove the layer thats on there now. I've heard that the over the counter clay bars aren't as aggressive as some of the professional products, so they take a little bit more work to get the paint 100% clean.
I tried using Meguiar's consumer grade clay, and was not at all pleased with it. Try using Griot's Garage clay and notice the difference!
If you clay the car, you really should wax it after you are through. While the clay does not strip the wax, it does remove surface contaminants. So in the areas where the surface contaminants were removed by the clay, you might not have any wax left.
