Default Swirl marks.

I want to detail my car before thw snow and salt hit the roads to protect the paint. I hve alot of swirl marks on the paint. What should I tell the detailer to use? I'm leaving it at a car wash place that details.

Polish or rubbing compound, glaze/. i dont know too much

if you have to tell the detailer what to use to do his job you should prolly find another detailer heh..

but for argument's sake, most auto stores sell a paste called swirl mark remover from different companies, or a polishing compound for fine scrathes and swirls.

I use this

good luck

depending on how bad the swirls are, you could probably get away with just using a decent polish. you shouldn't need a compound unless the swirls are very bad. i personally think that glaze is an easy way out, since it usually contains fillers (and thats like cheating), but it does make for a nice end product. and then you should always top with wax.

If he knows what he is doing 3M professional rubbing compound and machine glaze will get the job done. Use a creme pad and a dark grey pad respectively

I'd say this guy is right. I detail at Carmax and this is what we use, 3M products steps 1-3. Step 1 is white and and cuts aggressively used with a woolpad. Step 2 is grey and used with yellow/creme pad and gets light scratches and removes marks/scratches left by the woolpad. Then step 3 is blue and used with the black/grey pad and removes swirl marks.

As long as he doesn't blow through the detail and has any basic idea of what he's doing, it should be ok.

Check out www.obsessivedetail.com

The owner (s/n Juztang) is a great guy and has great products. Depending on how many and how deep, you might need to buy a polisher to get the swirl marks out. Check out his polishes/swirl removers/glazes section on his site.
