Arrow Complete detailing guide

I made myself a guide since here in IL it's almost nice enough out to spend some time outside working on my pony; I thought I could help some people out by posting it.

You will need the following supplies:

A hose/water supply
Automotive soap
A wash mitt or microfiber sponge
Microfiber cloths
Rim cleaner
Vacuum
Carpet cleaner with brush
Vinyl protectant with (opt.) hemp seed oil
Mother's Back to Black
Plast-X
Wadding Polish

And for part two:

Orbital buffer
3M automotive masking tape
Microfiber buffer cloths
Microfiber cloths
Automotive clay
Quick detailing spray
Rubbing/polishing compound
Automotive wax

Part one

1. Hose your vehicle's exterior down entirely. Don't forget the wheels and wheel wells. If there is heavy build-up on the paint, use low pressure at first, then high pressure next.

2. Starting with your wheels, use a wheel cleaning spray with a brush and work it into the crevices of the rim. Your vehicle is ready to see some suds. Using a clean wash mitt or sponge, soap up your whole car except for the wheels and tires. Rinse off the soap first, starting with the top, and when there are no more suds on your paint, rinse off the wheels.

4. Thoroughly dry your car including your wheels using a 100% cotton lint-free microfiber cloth. Avoid tires and the undercarriage as to not get the cloth dirty. Make sure there are no water spots where minerals such as salt and soap scum can lurk.

We will switch to the interior now, then finish the exterior with a detailing afterwards, which requires more equipment.

5. Using a spray bottle with water inside, conservatively spray your windows from inside the vehicle, and wipe dry.

6. Next, pick up all loose objects from the floor, especially under the seat (coins, pens, receipts). Empty out your center console and glove compartment, and then vacuum the interior.

7. Use a carpet cleansing soap with built-in brush to get your interior trim looking and smelling great. If you get wild with the suds, just remove any excess soap with a cloth or shop towel.

8. Use Turtle Wax or Armor All vinyl protectant, mixed with hemp oil if you have it. This keeps all these surfaces from fading and cracking from sun damage. The hemp oil really makes these surfaces come to life. Use these to protect the dashboard, glove compartment, center console, steering wheel, and all plastic and leather trim. Avoid LCD screens. Next, with this formula, wipe engine covers and plastic fluid containers under the hood, and any other plastic paneling. Also, don't forget to do the trim inside the trunk.

9. Add some Mother's brand Back to Black to the hemp oil and vinyl protectant concoction, and apply this on all BLACK plastic parts such as wipers, plastic grilles and vents, plastic side rails, mud flaps, bumper protectors, mirror covers, valences, vinyl engine covers, your black interior paneling, etc. Remove any excess product from the paint immediately. Not recommended on black vinyl or leather seats (the vinyl protectant concoction will be safer to use on them).

10. Use Plast-X on your headlights, tail lights, and markers. You may also use this on windows but be advised that a little goes a long way. In other words, using too much can make removing it take extremely an long time.

11. Use wadding polish on your wheels once they are completely dry. Use this great product on all metal and chrome surfaces inside and out. Don't forget to polish your exhaust tips and any stainless steel/chrome, aluminum, iron, or coated/alloy surfaces under the hood.

Read on if you want to detail your paint and give your car back that showroom shine.

Part two

12. Using automotive clay and quick detailing spray as lubricant, rub the bar across your paint going slowly and doing each panel thoroughly. Wipe off excess spray with a 100% cotton lint-free microfiber cloth.

13. Next, using your automotive tape, tape off all plastic trim, including plastic seals and the edges of plastic valences, vents and bumper trim.

14. Using an orbital buffer, apply a moderate amount of your favorite rubbing compound and apply moderate pressure. Buff one small area at a time. Avoid plastics, crevices, and windows.

15. Remove the polish using a new microfiber buffing cloth on the buffer and wipe off any residue with a 100% cotton lint-free microfiber cloth.

16. Use the pad provided in the wax container to apply an even coat liberally but not excessively. Again, avoid plastics, crevices, and windows.

17. Remove the wav using a new microfiber cloth by hand and wipe off any residue with a 100% cotton lint-free microfiber cloth.

18. Remove the masking tape, wipe off any excess product, and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Remember, keep it clean or be not seen!
