Default Metal polish

Hey guys,

I have the stock 18" fan blade style wheels. The blade part is textured but the rim area between each blade is not. I'd like to polish that area up and get rid of a little haze and swirling. Is that clearcoated or not? What polish do you recommend?

Hey man, just saw your post.

Mother's makes really good aluminum polish. Also, Meguires Hot Wheels cleaner is the bomb.

Either of those I personally recommend if you want to clean the wheels up well and get rid of some of the scratches.

Now, what type of finish is the wheel? Depending on Chrome, Satin, or polished, you HAVE to be careful. On Chrome wheels, ONLY use Chrome polish/cleaner. For polished and satin finish, use aluminum polish.

I'd use it with a very soft microfiber so as not to spread any dirt and scratch the clear coat on the wheels. Make sure you polish in an upward and downward motion. Circular will cause a slight marring of the paint, and then scratches.

My guess is since you have an 06 GT, you have polished rims. So, in this case, Mags hot wheel cleaner, or mother's aluminum polish are my favorites by far, and you cannot go wrong with the quality and the price.

Hope this helps. PM or Email me for more info buddy.

im pretty sure that the stock wheels have a clear coat on them, which you dont want to put a metal polish on. metal polish will remove the clear coat that is on the wheels.

Grabber...I was in Pep Boys yesterday looking at both those items you mentioned and neither indicated they were clearcoat safe.

I've been using both for years man. They are perfectly safe. You can check around with the detail sponsors, and look for their wheel seals and wheel waxes. If you feel more comfortable.

My Obessive Detail Metal Rx and Optimum Metal Polish are both excellent metal products, they polish, clean, and leave a layer of protection behind. Since you are a member here you get 10% off on these as well.

Yes, both the Metal Rx and Optimum Metal Polish are clearcoat safe and can be used on any type of wheel without a problem.
