First line=OCD and I think that after every coat she looks just a lirrle extra shiny. I had two younger chaps ask where the car had been painted re so shiny. They could not believe it was a factory paint job.

Factory paint can look outstanding! If you spend so much time waxing, is your finish swirl free?

Jim go to Autogeek.net and visit the How-To Section. Tons of videos and information on how to clean your car. Adam's has some get stuff as well, but near as many to choose from.

Anybody thought to tell him that the " paint " might not be paint coming off but DIRT ?
you said corners. I'm thinking joints of bumpers, fenders, hood etc. There's no such thing as a base coat without clear coat from the factory.

I looked at the picture and saw DIRT on the rag.

you didn't get my point. he mentioned edges. Think about it. Where the bumper meets the fender, around the badges. I know I pay close attention to those areas when I clean but no one is perfect and you may skip a place or two. so I'll put my money on that rather than base coat coming off.

he mentioned that kona blue was getting on his towel. But I am assuming that he has already washed his car really good before he waxed it. He also mention he can get the paint to rub off on more than one area

Allways apply in straight lines as this makes swirls impossible. I take wax/polish off in straight lines as well

Okay, just an update: I finally took my car to the dealer, and I am not sure if I got the run-around.

I told them that I used Maguire's Gold canned paste wax, and the service techs said that is "normal." They said that wax is abrasive, an one of the other techs went on about canned goods with "compound" written on the cans. Maguire's Gold makes no reference to any sort of "compound" at all, and I realized the guy was talking about polish that reconditions the surface of the clearcoat. My canned wax is not that at all, and yes, I did buy a can of polishing compound, but I have not opened it yet because my car paint is still brand new and does not need any sort of polishing.

Basically, they told me that when I waxed, I was forcing base coat paint to come up through the clear coat and onto my towel. I have never head of such a thing. I have head of clear coat being rubbed clean off and then the paint coming up, but not THROUGH the clear coat, leaving the clear coat intact, but still rubbing off paint.

Any paint and body expert, please post and put my misconceptions, if I have any, to rest.
