WD40?
Someone emailed me a list of all the things WD40 could safely do. I saw things like get tar and bugs off of cars on the list, so I just laughed. Then, in the course of the last few days, I asked some people about it and they agreed that WD40 was safe for paint and really worked. Now I feel really stupid and confused and decided to ask here if anyone could verify if WD40 really does safely clean bugs and tar off of paint.
I've used it to remove tar, bugs, and adhesive residue. Works quite well and AFAIK it's paint safe. It will remove any wax or sealant that was on the surface it is applied to. It's petroleum based.
For tar and sap, I typically use Stoners Tarminator.

I was wondering because my entire front bumper is covered in crap. There is literally not a square inch that doesn't have some kind of residue on it. It looks ok from about 3 feet away, but if you get close enough, it is like spotted from where the previous owner decided that scraping bugs off the front bumper was too much of a chore. I guess it is not a big deal since I plan on getting a new front bumper anyways, but until then I would like it to look decent.
There is also a decent amount of tar in the wheel wells that the previous owner neglected. I got a huge amount off, but there is still some there, and it keeps building up. I will definatly look into the stoner's stuff.
Thanks!

For bugs, you may want to check out Poorboys World Bug Squash. I've heard good things about this but have never tried it.
